CUSTOMER NOTES:
This Intel Management Engine Firmware (ME FW) SoftPaq contains utilities and the
appropriate ME FW image file (.bin) to update the Intel ME FW to version
12.0.92.2145 on Z2 G4, and Z2 Mini G4 Workstations. Also included in this
SoftPaq are utilities to report status and other information from the ME FW. In
addition to updating the ME FW, this SoftPaq will also update the Power
Management Controller Firmware (PMC FW) to version 300.2.11.1025.
ME FW: 12.0.92.2145
PMC FW: 300.2.11.1025
This SoftPaq does NOT include a system BIOS or Management Engine Software. It
is highly recommended to update your system to the latest BIOS and ME SW. The ME
SW includes Intel Management and Security Status software, Serial-Over-LAN (SOL)
drivers, and Management Engine Interface (MEI) drivers. The latest BIOS and ME
SW is available at https://support.hp.com/
This SoftPaq includes two methods for updating the ME FW. The ME FW can be
updated in a Linux environment or an EFI environment.
PREREQUISITES:
1) System BIOS 01.05.01 or greater must be installed before updating to ME FW
12.0.35.1427 or later.
2) Intel Management Engine must be enabled in BIOS. The option to enable ME is
located in the Advanced menu under Remote Management within BIOS setup (F10 BIOS
menu -> Advanced -> Remote Management). Please note, older BIOS versions may
only include a single option to enable the Intel Management Engine Interface
(MEI) device in BIOS. The Intel AMT option must be enabled in order to update
the Intel ME FW when only one enable option is available in BIOS setup. Newer
BIOS versions include separate options to enable Intel ME and Intel AMT
independently. In these cases, Intel ME must be enabled, while Intel AMT may be
enabled or disabled.
3) Updating the Intel ME FW in Linux requires root privileges.
4) Linux tools were validated with kernel version 4.15 in Ubuntu 18.04. It is
highly recommended to use kernel version 4.15. However, other kernel versions
may work. EFI tools are also provided for additional update options.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
-----Automated update procedure-----
1. From a terminal, navigate to the directory containing the Update.sh script.
By default, this is the root directory where the SoftPaq was extracted.
2. Execute the following command.
sudo bash ./Update.sh
A reboot is required in order for the new ME FW to take effect.
-----Manual update procedure-----
1. From a terminal, navigate to the directory containing the ME FW update
utility.
/ME-Flash/LINUX64/
2. Give the FWUpdLcl tool execution privileges by executing the following
command.
Sudo chmod u+x ./FWUpdLcl
3. Execute the following command. You must use the correct Intel ME FW image
(.bin) for your system. Verify your Intel CPU before proceeding.
Sudo ./FWUpdLcl -f ../12.0.92.2145.bin
A reboot is required in order for the new ME FW to take effect.
KNOWN ISSUES:
- In rare circumstances updating to the latest ME FW with BIOS versions prior to
01.05.01 could result in an infinite reboot loop when powering on, resulting in
a system board replacement. It is highly recommended to update to the latest ME
FW and system BIOS.
